Protecting Your Face with Natural Skin Creams
Friday, July 29th, 2011In these times there are a lot of fantastic skin firming products that can be purchased. There are even more not-so-good ones. You might have guessed, that it all comes down to the substances. Unfortunately, reading the label can be more like reading a chemical textbook, so how do you know what’s in a product?Reading the label is always the very best place to start. But just looking at that long listing of chemicals could be enough to make you give up. Thats why I start with the directions and the warning labels. The vast majority of creams and lotions can trigger stinging if it gets in your eyes. A simple warning on what to do when the cream gets in your eyes does not mean there is reason to be concerned. But if you read “avoid using this product around the mouth or eye area” then that is cause for worry. So what if it gets in your mouth? Will it poison you?You will almost certainly be shocked to learn that frequently there is poison involved. Even natural ingredients can be toxic. They can cause skin or eye discomfort. Essential oils are examples of semi-natural components that can lead to illness if consumed. They can cause irritation if used directly on the skin. Their principal advantage is that they smell good.I mention the essences of oils mainly because most skin care products contain them. It has never been clear to me why they call them what they call them. They don’t contain any omega-3 fatty acids. Chemically they are nothing like the skin’s natural oils. They are simply concentrated and distilled plant fragrances. They are mostly water. The truly essential fatty acids in ingredients like grapeseed oil and olive oil, are good for your skins health. They help the retention of moisture. They also contain nutrients like vitamin E. Vitamin E is one of the most potent anti-oxidants. Antioxidants are essential for preventing and repairing free radical damage, a major cause of skin aging. When reading the list of ingredients, natural vitamin E is commonly listed as alpha-tocopherol. Grape seed oil may be listed as Vitis vinifera seed oil. Olive oil is sometimes listed as olivate. There are quite a few other excellent ingredients to look for in natural skin care lines. A little research will prevent the application of harmful toxins on your skin.
